Today we're talking to Alison Boden about all things postpartum nutrition. What can you eat?? What should you avoid?? There are SO many misconceptions about diet in the postpartum period, and especially lactation. We usually hear a lot about diet during pregnancy, but there's more to postpartum nutrition than weight loss and food intolerances.
Pregnancy, birth, and lactation can deplete us of nutrients, so it's our jobs to re-nourish ourselves to replace what's been lost. Nutrient deficiencies can lead to hormone changes and mood disorders. But a lot of other things go under the radar like night sweats, inability to handle stress, and much much more!
Alison Boden is a registered dietitian specializing in women's health. She is the founder of Motherwell Nutrition (formerly Nourishing Radiance)--where she helps moms replenish their bodies, balance hormones and feel good again after kids. Also a mom to two young boys, she knows that feeding...
Families call him Dr. K., and on today's episode we have Dr. Pejman Katiraei to talk about a holistic approach to pediatrics with a focus on tongue ties. Specifically, we're discussing the domino effect they cause later in life--including failure to thrive, oral aversions/extreme picky eaters, sleep apnea, development of palate, and even what looks like ADHD and anxiety.
Dr. K graduated from his residency in 2006. From 2004-2005 he realized there has to be more to the story than what he was trained to do. He was fortunate to see a lot of complex cases, great training, but saw things that didn’t add up. One particular case was an 8-10 year old boy who had horrible colitis. Steroids didn’t work and doctors wanted to remove colon. Ultimately he knew there was more to the story than a major surgery.
Dr. K is an integrative pediatrician, with a focus on severe behavioral issues in children. He works with more...
In this eye-opening conversation with Mia Smith, Registered Dietician, we explore the healthcare and feeding disparities in South Africa. Mia is studying to become an IBCLC and has a breadth of experience in both middle-class and low-income environments across her country. In developing areas where families have little access to food, water, electricity, and healthcare, many challenges to breastfeeding, maternal diet, and infant feeding occur. Mia shares with us the things that are happening in her country and the many ways she and her colleagues work to engender improving outcomes.
